Wedding music is mood music. Meaningful Jewish music
at the ceremony and during the reception reflect the spiritual heights of the
day.
Music scores high marks on the spirituality scale. Levites would sing and play
musical instruments to accompany the various services in the Beit Hamikdash,
the ancient Holy Temple in Jerusalem. One of the Hebrew words for song is
zemer. In other settings, zemer refers to pruning. A holy song has
the ability to remove the dead branches of the soul, enabling the vibrant inner
core to flourish. From a mystical perspective, every composer invests his or her
spirit into each song. Whenever a song is played, the listener bonds with the
composers soul. Especially at a wedding, the music should be carefully chosen.
